Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D - Searchlight)

"Government is not inherently bad; government is inherently good.  That's why we have a Constitution and that's what we direct the activities of this government based upon."

Unfortunately, government is a necessity in the human condition, because humans by nature are not good and need to be kept in check...That said, never in human history has government been considered "inherently good."

"Government is not reason; it is not eloquence. It is force. And force, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." - George Washington

"The jaws of power are always open to devour, and her arm is always stretched out, if possible, to destroy the freedom of thinking, speaking, and writing." - John Adams

"When governments fear the people there is liberty. When the people fear the government there is tyranny." - Thomas Jefferson

"The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse." - James Madison

Call me crazy, but I put a lot more faith in the way our first four presidents (actually our first 27) than the big-government lunatics we currently have in power.

Sadly, most of the fears about government are born out of one simple fact; a fact which is gripping our nation:

"Most bad government has grown out of too much government." - Thomas Jefferson
