2009 Liberal Jackass Quotes of the Year - #18
Dave Riedel (Office of Security Review)
"This Administration prefers to avoid using the term 'Long War' or 'Global War on Terror [GWOT]. Please use 'Overseas Contingency Operation."
- Email from Riedel to Obama Administration officials.
**I'm happy to see Obama has decided to continue most of Bush's Iraq and Afghanistan plans instead of turning-tail like he promised during the election campaign. I guess reality hit him in the face when he took the job and realized it would do much more harm than good to bringing the troops home like his Lefty pals want...By the way, does this mean Barack now agrees with Bush's plans, since he is replicating or increasing them? Of course it does, though he'd never admit it.
That said, I feel sorry for our troops being lead by a Commander-in-Chief who wishes to offend less then he desires to win...I was in the Air Force when Bill Clinton was in office, and can tell you it's tough to do your duty when you are led by a commander without a clue or a decent amount of military moxy; and language matters, especially when it comes to how you define your enemies.
"This country no longer has any enemy combatants to worry about. There, don't you feel better? Probably not, because you know that, although the new administration has decided to drop the legal designation Enemy Combatant, they're all too real. Only the name is gone." - Paul Greenberg
The same can be said about the decision to change the terminology from Global War on Terror to a term with no real meaning. Well, no meaning other than to sissify our mission.**
