Based on his quote, he is NOT the man to do the job.....:-) The LEAST he could do is volunteer himself and his family to take the first small steps....nah, won't happen!!

I think what needs to be recognized is that he's addressing the critical consequences that our overpopulated planet faces. He's not suggesting that we go off and kill ourselves or others for the benefit of the world, he's simply putting it in such drastic terms that reveal the perspective needed to understand the dire situation of the world. Do you honestly think he's going to form some kind of plan for mass genocide?? He's stating it that way so that people understand just how overpopulated our world is, and that for our planet to get back to the state of health that we need to survive, that's how much our population would need to be decreased. Quite obviously, there is not a reasonable solution to our overpopulation, which is why we need to make exceptional efforts in every other area to fix our planet and save our future. Sometimes people need it put in extreme terms to fully understand the situation at hand. Captain Watson is doing just that.

Agree with Sharkgirl. The quote is taken out of context. Presumably, he means that naturally, people will die of old age, accidents, etc. And in their wake, stop procreating like cockroaches -- because that choice DOES have a negative impact on our earth and the future of this species. Ever seen Soylent Green? That disturbing existence is not that far off if we keep going at this rate. THAT should frighten you.
