I don't think he's wrong; iraqi deaths since the invasion just reached 1,000,000 and Allied suicides are at an all-time high. Maybe they won't win but, to them at least, the idea of a country occupying theirs, using mercenary Military contracters like Blackwater, carving up the industry and commerce and giving it to foreign companies.... the list goes on but the way THEY see themselves is heroes and there's a lot of evidence to suggest that they are freedom fighters in a sense. This is a matter of perspective of course but most Americans don't even understand THAT.

They are fighters, yes, but not freedom fighters in the sense of the American definition of freedom. (i.e. they are not fighting for freedom of their country of countrymen as in the American revolution, rather, they are fighting to bring about a return of the rule of Islam which is about as stifling as you can get when it comes to freedom)
