PETA

Many chronic panhandlers battle with addiction and mental health issues; dogs won't be able to tell us if they were harshly scolded, randomly screamed at, smacked, scruffed, locked in a bathroom or closet, or otherwise mistreated."
- Whining about a San Francisco idea of offering panhandlers $75 a week to stop begging and to take on puppies from city animal shelters.
I must admit I've become quite fond of my dog. It's taken 40+ years for me to become a 'dog person', but my little 8-pound Maltese-mix has won my heart.
That said, what is wrong with PETA? Harsh treatment is the last thing homeless dogs need to worry about when placed with San Fran Freako's bums. What they should be worried about is these bums either taking the dogs to Chinatown for a few dollars, or eating them themselves.
And heaven forbid President Obama comes to town and has flashbacks of his childhood eating habits...Doh!

As odd as it my sound, I have seen a study that shows that the dogs of homeless people are quite well cared for and well treated since most of the time, they are the only friend that person has and will also guard them. Doesn't mean PETA isn't stupid or that the city is smart...just interesting info.
