Rep. James Moran (D - Virginia)
"I think the American people should know that the members of Congress are underpaid...I understand that it's widely felt that they under perform, but the fact is that this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world."
- Members of Congress are paid $174,000 per year.
"Cry me a river..." - Justin Timberlake
Moran really is a moron. Besides the fact anyone making $174K/year shouldn't be whining about needing a raise, he has to know most Americans can't stand Congress - let alone want to give their federal representatives a raise.
Part of the problem is Congress was never supposed to be a career. It was supposed to be about public service; a service performed and moved on from...But that's not the way things are now. Instead too many members stay for as long as they can - which is part of the problem, because the goal is no longer service. Instead the goal is keeping your job; getting paid and funneling as much taxpayer money as possible to your friends and family.
Also, Moran/moron is absolutely correct about Congress leading "the largest economic entity in the world." The difference between congressmen and real "board of directors" is if companies performed as ridiculously as the U.S. Government does their bosses would get fired - not ask for a pay raise.
Loser!
