- First paragraph in Obama's recent executive order continuing President Bush's military commissions policy at Gitmo.
Maybe I've gone crazy, but I thought Obama wasn't going to follow Dubya's 'terrible' policies...Especially when it came to Gitmo.
"But make no mistake. We will close Guantanamo prison, which has damaged our national security interests and become a tremendous recruiting tool for al Qaeda. In fact, that was an explicit rationale for the formation of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. And as I've always said, we will do so - we will close the prison in a manner that keeps the American people safe and secure." - Obama (2008)
Hmm? Maybe the Teleprompter-of-the-United-States (TOTUS) snuck that monkey business about closing Gitmo in on Barack. Or did Obama mean what he said in 2008, and now realizes he was very wrong? Nah...Either way, as C-in-C Obama is the man making the tough choices. He's the new Guantanamo Gate-Keeper, and it'll be interesting to see how long it takes his pals to start comparing him to Stalin, Hitler and other democidal nutters.
"If I read this [Gitmo report] to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control...you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime - Pol Pot or others - that had no concern for human beings." - Sen. Wouldn't it be nice if Obama would just admit he was wrong? Yes it would, but Durbin will compare him to Attila the Hun before that happens...Which is never.
