Eleanor Clift

"Bush wants a fight and a victory, and he can have both. It's a matter of pure power. If he nominates someone the Democrats cannot accept and they filibuster, Senate Republicans can invoke the so-called 'nuclear option,' eliminating the minority party's right to filibuster judicial nominations, which means Bush wins. Senate tradition and collegiality will be destroyed but Bush doesn't care."

**I don't care either.......Get it done, and blow up "Senate tradition and collegiality" for all I care.

FYI for those of you who don't understand Senate rules: The Constitution left Senate rules and procedures to the Senate.....They are often changed, and the "so-called nuclear option" is nothing but a simple change in the Senate rules and procedures. --> As has been done thousands of times by both parties.

And Eleanor, lets not pretend you care about anything other than defeating Bush.......We all know the Democrats would do the exact same. ---> In fact they would have already done so, because they are much more politically skilled and brutal.**

I should know this. And I will research it, but how many times in the last 50 years has that option been used?

I have no idea how many times it has been changed, but it was last changed in the 70's....At the lead of Sen. Robert "KKK" Byrd (Senate Majority Leader, Former Grand Cyclopse of the KKK, and last Senator to use the "N"-word on the Senate floor).

The reason it hasn't been changed very often in the past is because neither party had ever been ridiculous enough to filibuster a SCOTUS or Appeals nominee in the past.

This is a new tool of the Democrat Party, and if they want to take full advantage of Senate rules (to filibuster) then they shouldn't be surprised to have the Republicans do likewise with Senate rules.
