Nina Totenburg (NPR Correspondent)

"We have now violated everything that we stand for. It is the first time in my life I have been ashamed of my country."

**Nina Totenburg, Government Employee.

How do you feel about paying this bitch's salary?? I know I'm pissed, but she's more the norm than then exception at NPR. --> Just another reason there shouldn't be such an entity.**

Perhaps some context to go along with your criticism?

The context is in the quote.........I really don't need to say anything. They do a fine job on their own.

You’re right she should get on the air and publicly claim that she wants to have Bush's children, that Liberals hate freedom, that war is always good as long as oil companies can make some extra cash, that anyone who ever questions anything the government does is anti-American, that we should hand all our rights away, ignore international law, isolate ourselves even more and that Gay people are coming to recruit all your white children. That would be ok by you I assume.

How dare her try to make this country a better place. How dare her to read the news and care about how this country behaves itself. She should be ashamed. Let the government do what they think is best for Halliburton and Exxon.

Let NPR and PBS try to compete in the 'real' non-gvt tax funded world of reality. Let's see how long it will take before Elmo and Big Bird are on your street corner with signs, 'Will make your kids laugh for air-time'

ALL funds given to any broadcasting medium through theft by taxation should be stopped. If they can't support themselves, they will fold. If they are truly supported by their 'supporters' they will succeed without government involvement.

I agree with the first person. I don't know what she's talking about.

First of all, a very small percentage of government money goes to NPR these days, MOST of the support comes from private contributions. I have no doubt that NPR will continue to thrive if/when the government ceases all contributions. Honestly, I can understand Ms. Totenburg's pain, it's difficult not to be a little ashamed when your nation is engaged in an illegal war, turns a blind eye to the poor at home, and when we re-elect a regime that can't seem to grasp the concept of simple ideas such as "separation of powers" and "democratic republic."

To Toad734, there's nothing wrong with NT trying to make this world a better place, in whatever way that fits her philosophy. However, she is a reporter/journalist (at least that's what NPR claims she is) therefore, needs to report the facts as they are, not as she wishes they were. Her audience should make up their own minds about the issue without her 2 cents. Additionally, the US should abide by international laws when others do the same, specifically our enemies. The idea that we need to take the high road is BS and will ultimately lead to our demise. To think we can sit across the table with Al-Queda and "talk about it" is so laughable.

Next, I don't think GWB would get within 10 feet of NT....let's be honest, she ain't purdy!

Re: Halliburton and Exxon. Let me guess, you don't use any gasoline, right?

To Richard: Regardless of how little NPR receives from the tax payers, ultimately is should be NONE. If they didn't take our money, then their "reporters" can insert their opinion on any topic they want and nobody would care----literally, since nobody would be listening to care.

If you're so confident that they will continue to thrive then let's pull out all funding now.
