*QUICK COMMENT ON MY NFL POST
I’ve had a lot of people say: ‘Hey
Pero, what about the 1st Amendment?
Don’t you believe in the players, owners, whoever’s right to say or
protest how they wish?’
This is so frustrating.
Of course I’m a 1st Amendment proponent (unlike Liberals, I
believe in all of the Constitution and Amendments). People can say what they want, and peacefully
protest how and whatever they want…The NFL has every right to do exactly what
they are doing.
That said, people need to understand what the 1st
Amendment does and does not do.
-
What it
does: It protects people from the
government…The government cannot tell you what you can say or protest against –
as long as you do it peaceably.*
-
What it
does not do: It does not protect people
from other people’s opinions and reactions to what they say or protest. It does not protect people from being fired
at work. It does not force other people to
care or listen to their speech or protest. The 1st Amendment is not an absolute shield of protection, and shouldn't be assumed to be.
This is the frustration I have: Too many Americans think the 1st Amendment gives them the
right to do whatever the hell they want – with no consequences from other
people or society in general...The Left, in particular, thinks that's exactly what it does - FOR THEM! They don't think it provides any cover for Normals.
This is where my previous post comes in. The NFL clowns can do what they will. More power to them. But they have absolutely no right to force
anyone to like it, watch it, participate in it, or support it…Like everything else
in life, they have to do what they have to do, but they have to be aware there
may be consequences for their actions – consequences they may not
like.
This was exactly the point of my post: If they continue to do as they have been, I will not support their product - a product I truly love. I will do my own little part to bring them and their league down, and I will ridicule and curse them for as long as they continue to act as they are...If they truly believe in their cause they will continue as they are. If they care for their fat wallets more than their cause, they will stop
or at least modify what they are doing.
I’m betting they figure this out quickly.
Here’s the reality of everything, not just the NFL:
"In democracies, we the people get the government we
deserve. We also get the celebrities we deserve, the artists we deserve,
and the athletes we deserve. Because ultimately, we the people get to decide
who and what gets our attention, and who and what does not." - Mike Rowe
