Prager University: Do Big Unions Buy Politicians?

"We teach what isn't taught." - Dennis Prager

Ever wonder why American public schools are a mess?  Why police and fire departments never seem to have enough money to do their jobs?  Why going to the Post Office is one of life's most miserable tasks?  Of course they are all government run operations, which by definition leads to fraud, waste and abuse...There is another factor, however, and that factor is public service unions.

I'm glad to see DiSalvo made a distinction between private enterprise unions and public service unions.  Both lead to fraud, waste and abuse, but if private businesses fail the problem is theirs, their unions, and their creditors...If the business of the public fails - which it does constantly - it is the problem of the people they are supposed to serve - THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

DiSalvo doesn't state the most important point in this semester, though I'm sure he believes it goes without saying:  Public service unions do not collectively bargain against the government.  Public service unions collectively bargain against the PEOPLE!  The people are the ones paying their salaries and benefits, NOT THE GOVERNMENT.  The people are the ones who suffer from the crappy product the government collectively bargains with these unions as well.

Something to keep in mind during every election cycle when local and state bonds come crying for more money - which not surprisingly is EVERY election cycle...Even when they come out with scare tactics of having to lay off teachers, police, fire, etc.

This semester of Prager University is presented by:  Daniel DiSalvo

"[T]he impact they have on how state and local governments operate makes big banks, big oil and big pharma look small by comparison." - D.D.

"But, reform is coming.  It must.  If it doesn't, cities like Detroit will be the rule, not the exception." - D.D.
